Look Up. Spring chores like trimming trees and cleaning gutters often require a ladder. Be sure to check for overhead power lines before you start your job.

Look Down. Who knows what lurks beneath the ground? To avoid hitting underground electric, water, telephone, gas or cable lines, be sure to call Diggers Hotline 1-800-242-8511 at least 3 days prior to any digging or planting.

Unplug It. Lightning can enter a home via power lines. Protect your household electronics by unplugging those not needed for obtaining weather information. Also limit telephone use during a lightning storm.

Plan Ahead. Prepare for storm emergencies by compiling a storm safety kit. Include items such as a flashlight, first aid kit, weather radio, fresh batteries, blankets, water and a list of emergency phone numbers.
